Upgrade Vcenter and change database from Oracle to SQL?

Hello I am starting a project this month to upgrade VMware from ESX 3.5 for ESXi 4 update 1. Normal not to bad of upgrade but I need change the database that Vcenter is running on to from Oracle 9i to SQL 2008.

There are 2 clusters at this client one is used for VMware servers and it appers they are not using any fetures of Vcenter that would tie it do the Orcale 9i Database so at worest I figure I can pull those hosts out of the current Vcenter and just move them in to the new one.

The 2nd Cluster is for VMware view and that is heavly realying on Vcenter and database behind it. What is best way to move that data to SQL?

Can this all be done via linked mode? I need do little home work on linked mode this week. But I wanted to flat out ask, what have others done to move from Vcenter database from Orcale to SQL?

Try to make a DB migration first and then use the new DB for the upgrade.

It does not help for a DB migration.
