Update Manager

In order for Update Manager to work, Do you need to have ping (ICMP) open between your ESX host and Virtual Center server (Update Manager is on the same server)

We have repository in place with all patches. However, we are getting an error saying "Vmware update manager had a failure" while trying to scan any of our ESX server. We manually opened port (esxcfg-firewall -o 88,tcp,out,UpdateManager) as well on ESX host with no go.

Port number. In most cases, the Web service ports (80 and 443 by default) are used.

But we have been using 808 and one of my other environment and thats working fine. Also, I changed the port and then also getting the same error.
