I came in this morning and both my VirtualCenter Service and Update manager service were down (both are set to automatic). I restarted both. VC service started fine but Update Manager service is in continual "starting" mode. What can I do to resolve this?
In task manager is the process VMware-updatemgr.exe running? If so end it and then see if you can start update manager from the services mmc.
not running.
A reboot of the server will sort this.

didn't work.
Check your Event logs to see if there is an entry, I've had problems before where VUM Sevice wouldnt start and it was due to it not being able to find the DB.
thanks . I'll check that out. needed to stop the service first, however.
Is there a CLI command that I can run to stop the VMware Update Manager Service..? Like the command you'd use in the ESX host for VC Service, that is
