Unexpected Customization Error

I know this was addressed previously.. but none of the tips seem to resolve my problem.

When creating a Vm from a template it gets to 99% and then bombs out with "A general System error occured: unexpected customization error"

I do not have VCB loaded on the VC server.... and have uninstalled and re-installed Virtual Center 2.0.1 ... still error pops up..

Any help..please?

What happens if you convert your template back to a VM then Clone the VM, now use the Clone and convert it to Template..

I had the same problem. It must have something to do with the customization file and the R2 template. I was able to deploy a virtual machine if I did not use my old customization file.

I have the same problem,

installed a VM, converted it to template. cloning works, deploying, without customatization = cloning. any form of deploying with customizaton yields the Unexpected Cusomization Error.

I'd appreciate any tips.

thanks

Do you have the sysprep files copied onto the Virtualcenter server as per the Admin guide?

The instructions begin on page 345. You may have to upgrade them to the R2 sysprep depending on your template.

I wonder if its something in the customization itself? Try creating a new, very basic customization specification.

If that works, you could then replace fields from your existing (failing) customization to the new, one at a time, to see where the problem is occuring.

Are these localized versions of Windows (the VC server and/or the guest being deployed)? There have been bugs in the past causing problems with customizations on localized versions.

The above assumed you're using pre-defined Customization Specifications, not walking through the wizard each time. Pre-defined specifications can be exported, modified, and re-exported quite easily, which is what I was getting at with my "replace fields" comment.

Did you also extract the deploy.cab file from the cd to the same directory as sysprep?

The other thing that causes this error can be not using DHCP during the sysprep portion.

Okay,

Don't understand why, but a repair installation of VC made it work.

thanks for all your input.
