Unable to manage datastore after upgrade Virtual center 2.5U4 to vCenter 4

Hello,

Recently we upgraded our Virual Center server 2.5 U4 to vCenter 4.

After upgrading I noticed that all my SAN volumes were placed in a new folder named "datastore-upgrade"

The same goes for my networking, all my switches are placed in a folder "network upgrade"

Problem is that I can't manage my datastores (and network) anymore.

A new volume (created after the upgrade) is not placed in this folder and can be managed.

The administrators group has the role 'administrator' assigned, my own account has the role 'Datastore/Network Access (upgrade)' role assigned.

Our admin accounts are not in the administrators group, since the domain admin account is known by to many users (yeah, I know......)

How can I regain control over my datastores ??

My setup:

ESX hosts running ESX 3.5 patch level 176894

Dell/Equallogic PS series SAN

Virtual Center running vCenter 4

Thanks,

Harry

Are you getting any errors when you try to manage your datastore or you networkconfig?

Nope, in the commands section I just don't get the option 'Browse Datastore'.

When I try to move a datastore out of the "datastore-upgrade" folder it just won't let me...

Looks like something associated with permissions, but I can't set them on the "datastore-upgrade' folder Smiley Sad

Yes, the account I use to login with is member of the domain admins group.

At the top level this account has the administrator role assigned.

This flows down to the datastore-upgrade folder where it suddently has the role "Datastore/Network Access(Upgrade)" assigned.

I'm not able to change this and can't move the volumes out of this folder.

Looks like I'm stuck here..

Hmmhhh.

Are you point from a client through vsphere Client or are you directly on you vcenter?

Have you tried another Admin Account for testing?

I've tried 2 different admin accounts, neither one works.

Looks like I have to use an account in the admins group.

Problem solved !!

I've added a test account to the admins group, logged in with the test account and granted my admin account the admin role.

When logging in with my own account I was able to manage the datastores normally again Smiley Happy
