Ugrading to virtualcenter 2.0.2 and vmware-tools

We just want to upgrade virtualcenter to 2.0.2 but leave ESX on 3.0.1. I have one question before we start upgrading, do you need to upgrade all vmware-tools if you just upgrade Virtualcenter?

ESX 3.0.2 looks a bit sheaky at this time so we want to leave it at the 3.0.1. Hope anyone has some experience with just upgrading virtualcenter.

Thanks

No you do not need to upgrade Tools. Here's a good thread to read through before upgrading, make sure the tmp/vmware-root directory exists on your ESX servers before upgrading.

Eric,

I do have a quick question if you don't mind. I also like to upgrade to v2.0.2 from v2.0.1 and leave ESX on v3.0.1. But I prefer creating/installing a brand new DB instead.

In this case, would it be more proper to remove VC from host machine and install from scratch instead of running upgrade setup.

I will read more on the post and hope I get the answer.

Thanks.

If you perform an upgrade and point it at your existing VC database, you will have the option to "reintialize the database and start over with a blank configuration". If you choose yes it will wipe the database and start from scratch. No (selected by default) will preserve the database as it.

Thanks Dave for your quick answer.

I am pursuing to remove v2.0.1, install v2.0.2 from scratch, recreate a new DB, hope it is clean from now on. If you know any hints that I should be aware going this approach, thanks to let me know.
