Ubuntu 10.04 Guest OS Customization - vCenter 5

vCenter Appliance, up to date

vSphere ESXi 5.0U1

I set up an Ubuntu 10.04.3 VM and installed VMWare tools.

When I reach the "Guest Customization" page, it says:

"Customization of the guest operating system 'ubuntu64Guest' is not supported in this configuration. Microsoft Vista (TM) and linux guests with Logical Volume Manager are supported for only recent ESX host and VMWare Tools versions. Refer to documentation for supported configurations."

The documentation with the requirements are here:

http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.vsphere.vm_admin.doc_50/GUID-E63B6FAA-8D35-428D-B...

VMWare tools installed via the mount from 5.0U1

The Virtual disk is on SCSI 0:0. The disk is LVM.

Perl is installed

Compatibility link: http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=software&testConfig=16&produ...

The metrics page shows that Ubuntu 10.04 Update 3 is supported on vSphere 5.

I may have figured out the problem. The appliance is not 5.0u1.

I'll try to install it on a server and see if it works.

Turns out that the appliance is a version behind.

It is a shame, because I really like the idea of the virtual appliance for vCenter.
