Tweak datamigration tool to do full backup for easy DR recovery of vCenter?

Ok,

My vCenter server is the achillies heel of my nice, redundant, and highly available VMware environment.   I've not heard of a good way to back up your vCenter server such that you can quickly and easily recover it. Having gone through a vCenter upgrade (and migration) from v4.0 to v4.1, it seemed to me that just a few tweaks to the data migration tool could easily make it into a vCenter backup tool.  With that tool, your vCenter config, certificates and databases are packaged up into that one folder, that folder could be backed up to tape or another machine and stored off site.  In the event of a disaster or physical server failure, you'd just need a machine (or virtual machine), this backup folder, and vSphere vCenter install media.  It'd be extremely easy to get up and running again with just a couple of steps.

Anyone at VMWare Labs or anyone else out there thought about this or actually tweaked up the data migration tool to do this or something similar?
