  • 1.  Trying to delete orphaned VM - No GO

    Posted Jul 30, 2007 04:10 PM

We had a Dmotion that failed so we just created a new VM and attached to the old vmdks. Now, I couldn't delete the VM from VC so I just did an vmware-cmd unregister and deleted all the junk files.

Now I have the VM grayed out and (Orphaned). I cannot remove from VC and there is nothing to delete or unregister from the console.

What can I do to get rid of this from VC?

    Thanks!

Have you tried stopping and starting the VC server service on your VC server or on the ESX host stop and start the management service.

    Hi.

You can try to restart the Virtual Center service from Window, as has been suggested you, or you can try, from the ESX host where you unregistered the virtual machine, to restart the VC agent with the command:

    service mgmt-vmware restart

Post again to tell if it went ok.

    Bye!

Just tried restarting services on host.. still a no go. Will have to try restarting VC when people are out of it.

    I will let you know.

Restarting VC didn't remove it...wondering since we have a production VM on that host what removing the host will do?

I have a similar problem with an orphaned VM (greyed out).

Restarting of VC 2.0.2 doesn't help.

service mgmt-vmware restart helped me sometimes.

But I have on issue which none of them helped me.

I must migrate all the VM's on that host with vmotion and the reboot the host on which originally the orphaned VM resides.

After the host reboot, the orphaned VM went away. - STRANGE -

We had to REMOVE the host from inventory and re add it after booted. Thanks for all your help.
