Hi,
I know this issue has been posted by a few people before however unfortunately I still haven't found a solution to this problem in my environment.
When I check the update manager 'Enabled' checkbox in Virtual Center - Plug ins - manage Plug ins - Installed Tab I get the error message as shown in the attached file.
I'd appreciate any help you guys can offer this newbie!!
Thanks in advance,
Peter
I am not sure what causes this, but when I had the issue, I just restarted the virtual center service. It will not affect any of the machines, it will just make virtual center unavailable while the service restarts. Let me know if this doesnt fix your problem.

Hi,
I had the same problem and it did not help restarting services or even restarting the server. I ended up removing and reinstalling update manager to fix the problem.

I removed Update Manager & reinstalled it and I've just gone one small step in the right direction.
Now when I right click a host, cluster or data center and select scan for updates I get an error message each time in the recent tasks saying 'There are errors during the scan operation'.
Has anyone come across this?
Is there any basic test I can carry out to confirm Update Manager is working correctly?
Thanks for your replies guys. Really appreciate it.
Peter
Hi, I had to reinstall VCenter and Update manager as well when I had issues with U3 update. If you went into Client and re-enabled the UPdate Manager component and all of that you should be okay. You might have to create a baseline before scanning so it knows what to scan for and might have to attach baseline to ESX host or cluster etc. It has been a while since I setup Update Manager. Have you setup a baseline and configured Update Manager tab to connect to Web va proxy or directly and all of that ?
Ok....I am still moving in the right direction with small steps though
Now I can scan for Virtual Machine (Guest OS updates) & they come back successfully.
My issue now is with ESX Server Updates. No updates are coming back from ESX Server Updates.
So when I Remediate it fails for ESX Server. Anyone come across this issue?
Thanks again for all your help,
PM
Ok, assuming there are updates availalble for the ESX Hosts, can you check that you have configured your Update Manager to download updates for ESX, have you created a baseline for your ESX hosts specifically or are you using one baseline attached to DataCenter level or Cluster level for both ESX and Windows updates?
I think it is configured to download ESX updates. Update Manager - Configuration Tab - Update Downloads - Edit update downloads - ESX Updates, All Windows Updates, All Linux Updates are all checked. Is this correct?
I have created a Baseline specifically for the ESX hosts.
Cheers,
PM
