The different between Virtual Center and VCenter server??

One of my client is asking

What's the different between Virtual Center and VCenter server??

As I understood, the service console for the Virtula center has been removed out, am I right? Then, how about VCenter server? What kind of "technology" is use by it?

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

vCenter Server was previously known as VMware VirtualCenter Server Smiley Happy

VMware vCenter Server 4 is a component of VMware vSphere 4.0.

There is service console for ESX hosts. Please go through the below links to get more idea about vCenter Server and ESX hosts:

Introdution to VMware vSphere:

ESX and vCenter Server Installation Guide: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_esx_vc_installation_guide.pdf

Thanks.

As mentioned by the other poster - vCenter and VirtualCenter are the same - it's just a name change and is now known as vCenter

In regards to service console - this is the management layer on ESX. However, ESXi has no service console - all the management is done via the vmkernel instead.
