Suggestion on Vcenter DB migration on New VM and upgrading vcenter server

Hi,

I am looking for suggestion/plan with steps for migrating the Vcenter DB to New VM and then upgrading the vcenter server from

4.1 to Update1/2

My plan will be

1)Creating new VM.

2)Install fresh OS 64-bit

3)Migrating Vcenter DB from physical server to New vm.

4)Upgrading Vcenter Server 4.1 to update 41 Update1/2 4.1

Anything thing missing then please let me know.

Thanks

vmguy

Hi vmguy

I agree with this approach

3)Migrating Vcenter DB from physical server to New vm.

As long as you Leave the old DB in tact and just detach and copy the DB to the new VC.

Then run the upgrade on the new VC and DB.

This way you have a rollback plan in case anything goes wrong with the upgrade.

Just to Add:

You need to migrate the ADAM database as well to maintain the vCenter specified permissions

See: Migrateing vCenter to new Host
