Storage permissions

Hi,

is there a way to create a role with specific storage access for users?

We want to give"create vm"-access for users on specific DataStores, so that the user can create different VMs on demand on his own storage-area.

Thanks,

Tim

Hello,

No, this is not possible.

Not sure if you have seen this but a decent doc on permissions: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_vc_roles.pdf

Thanks for your reply. I knew this paper, but i hoped, that despite of that there would be a chance to grant permissions on the storage...:-(

Is there any third-party-management-tool, that can do this? Has anyone experience with Dune's Virtual Service - Orchestrator?

Regards,

Tim

It can be done, but you would have to have separate clusters for different development groups... with each cluster only having access to unique LUNs that you want to limit the users to store their VM's.

Typically, this is not a very efficient solution. However, in large envirionments, I could see this being a common/viable setup.
