Standby VC Server

Hi,

Got a question with having a standby VC server in the following configuration. VC server as VM with local DB which is empty. If prod VC server were to fail we would cut over to the standby VC server and import the backup SQL data.

Now I can't remember if with this scenario there would actually be an issue with the ESX servers and them thinking they were connected to the wrong VC server etc etc.

Is there any flaws in this design because I simply cannot remember...

Thanks in advance....

If you cut over to the new VC server as a result of the old one failing then you will just need to add the ESX servers to the new VC server, however you will be presented with an informational warning to tell you that the ESX hosts are currently connected to another VC server. Once you select OK then the new VC server will manage the ESX servers fine really.

There are more resilient designs available, some people cluster the VC server (www.vmware.com/pdf/VC_MSCS.pdf) so you could look at this as an alternative.
