Snapshot of a single drive.

Does anyone know if it is possible to snapshot a single drive. I have a VM with three drives, C, D, E. D has my database that I would like to snapshot - I don't need the OS on C:. Can I snapshot a single drive a restore it to my test server's D partition?

If it is not built into windows does anyone know of an application that can do this?

Would it be easier to snapshot the LUN (that has only D partition on it) from the SAN and restore it to D on another SAN LUN?

You can't do this with ESX 3. Perhaps you can snapshot the whole VM and then copy off the underlying file wherever you need to and then remove the snapshot.

we use vmbk.pl (& vmkfstools) and edit .vmx to specify which disks should / should be backed up
