Setting Up VC 2.0

I currently have 2 ESX 3.0.x servers in production right now however we have never taken advantage of our VC license. I now have it installed and I am ready to add my ESX hosts. The concern I have is when I attempt to add a host it asks me where would I like to store the Virtual Machines. I am somewhat new to VMware and especially VC so you can see how this would concern me. My question is will adding a my ESX hosts to the VC server change the current setup, ie where config and hard drive files are stored, and will there be any interruption to the virtual servers that are currently running. If there is already documentation on this subject I would greatly appreciate a link to it. Thanks in advanced.

Hello Chris, welcome to the VMware community!!!

Adding an ESX host to a VC server datacenter won't change the setup of or harm any of the virtual machines.

For documentation on adding ESX hosts, I would take a look at the admin guide:

http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_301_201_admin_guide.pdf

The whole guide is a great reference, but for adding ESX hosts start with chapters 6 (Managing the VI Client Inventory) and 7 (Managing Hosts in VirtualCenter) starting on pages 91 and 99 respectively.
