Scheduling a clone of a server

Hello,

I'm using vCentre 4.1 and have scheduled a daily clone of a server, will it overwrite the one that is already there that ran earlier as I only need one copy cloned per day.

Thanks

Hi,

I think vCenter will add a name_1 name_2 etc. to the clones and will not overwrite it.

Hi,

With a Scheduled Task for cloning a VM, vCenter doesn't overwrite a previously created clone. If vCenter finds a clone with the same name which you are creating, you will get an error message.

You have to sure to delete the previous clone before you can create a new one with the same name.

ok thanks, is there a way to only keep 3 days of each server, or is it a manual delete?

depending of how many servers you want to backup you should think about getting a backup software. What vSphere licenses do you got? With Advanced you could use vData Recovery for daily automated backups.

I have vData Recovery and just trying to install it, not sure what I'm doing yet, but it looks like it is Linux based, looks like I have to give it an IP address and browse to it via https.

Is it good then?

Hi,

You have to install de Client Plug-in on vSphere Client and then you have to install de Backup Appliance. You have to give it an IP address and then you can manage it by vSphere Client.

Check out the VDR Documentation:
