Scheduled Tasks -- clone a vm regularly

Hello,

I am thinking of using Scheduled Tasks in VC to hot clone some VM:s regularly to a secondary storage as a complement to the usual backup.

How am I supposed to work with this feature ?

If I schedule a clone to be done every hour, for instance, I get the error message that there already exist a VM with that name and the task fails.

I would expect it to overwrite the first VM clone.

Anybody, please explain this to me.

i would suggest using the VMware converter plugin, it has an "overwrite" option:

Hello Duncan,

thanks for the fast answer. I tried the suggestion you made but I chose virtual machine instead of physical.

Unfortunately, it complained about the VM being powered on or suspended.

Do I have to create a task that shuts the source VM down before importing it ?

Anyone come up with a solution for this? I'm having the same issue... I want to schedule a clone task weekly and overwrite the old VM but it just creates another with the same VM name, and the vmfs file name it appends with "_1"

There should be an easy overwrite option. =/
