SSO 5.5 upgrade fails, from 5.1.0

Trying to upgrade VCenter to 5.5 - when upgrading the SSO portion, get an error saying that the VMware KDC service failed to start - verify that you have sufficient privs, etc. it is installing as local system. stops immediately upon starting. no helpful info in system logs. try it as a local administrator on the VCenter server - still fails immediately. anyone have any recommendations or ideas where i can look to find out the source of the issue and get it resolved?

thanks!

Make sure you have free space.. I had like 300mb left and I got the same error.. After fixing that the installation continues but rollsback later on Smiley Sad

about 12GB free, here - shouldn't be an issue.

turns out there was a copy of a 4.x version of VMware Converter on the machine, which was using one of the ports that the VMware KDC service wants to use. Disabling / removing it got the install to complete.

Same problem, i remove VMware Converter on the machine and reboot but not fix Smiley Sad.

Service start and stop immediatly... (Identity and Kdc).

Hi LoupArtic,

Did you also ensure that the Converter Service is not running before trying to restart VMware KDC?

If you run netstat, do you see anything else using port 88?

Specifically, KDC start, SSO start, but Identify Management Service start and stop immedialty after remove Converter and reboot and installation fails.

Actually, i have VPXD at port 88.

I tried disabling all services connected to vCenter, reboot but same problem with upgrade.

Its an English Windows and speak French in the MSI... (I tried with forcing English).
