Resource Pool Question

If you have 2 RP one set to high (RPa) and one to normal(RPb). And in (RPa) no VMs and in (RPb) you have 8 VM.

Does RPa take any resources up or is it only when there is a VM in it?

Basicaly does an empty resource pool take any resources up or does the one with the 8VMs take the 100% of phisical resources.

I want to know if Resource Pools are dedicated or if I would start effecting RPb's performance by adding more machines to RPa

Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "High" and "Low".

If you are referring to memory/cpu shares, then the setting of high/low won't make any difference when there aren't any VMs running in the resource pool. "Shares" only come into play when VMs are competing for resources.

If you allocate reservations to resource pools, whether or not they they take affect when there are no VMs running depends on whether or not you are dealing with memory of cpu reservations. If you set a memory reservation, this physical memory will not be available to other VMs even if there are no VMs "using" the reserved memory. If you set a cpu reservation, this reservation will be available to other VMs if there aren't any VMs using the reserved cycles.
