Remove source and replica virtual machines associated with View Composer

I am running the following:

vCenter Server 4.0.0

1 x ESX 4.0.0 Standard

1 x ESX 3.5.0 Standard

We recently trialed VMWare View 3.1 and View Composer and setup a View Composer Virtual Desktop Pool.

Since then vCenter has been upgraded from 2.5 to 4 and the ESX server hosting the Desktop pool was upgraded from 3.5 to 4. This stopped View Composer running due to it not been supported on v4. This was OK as it was only a trial.

The problem is I have 2 orphaned machines now in a folder which I cannot delete. I can do nothing with the machines themselves, if I try to remove the folder I get "Invalid / explicitly disabled state operation is invoked"

KB Article: 1008704 describes my problem perfectly but if I follow the resolution this I get:

Establishing connection to the VC server.

SviConfig finished with an error. Exit code: 4

This VC api version (4.0) is not supported.

Again due to v4 being incompatible.

Is there any other way to remove these orphaned machines?

I have now resolved this. I connected to the host directly rather than through vCentre and the hosts showed as unknown and let me delete them. I then removed the host from vCentre and re-added it and this removed the offending entries.
