Registering a vCenter Server in vSphere Web Client (5.5)

Hi,

Just wondering if it's possible to register multiple vCenter servers (all vCenter Server Appliances) with one vSphere Web Client instance which is running on one of these vCenter Appliances?

VCSA1 > Use built in Web Client to manage all vCenter servers.

VCSA2 > Register with VCSA1.

VCSA3 > Register with VCSA1.

I cannot find any 5.5 specific information but from what I've read I think it's possible on 5.1. The 'admin-cmd.sh' script doesn't appear to be present in my 5.5 VCSA though.

vSphere Documentation Center

The vCenter Server system in a vCenter Server appliance is preregistered with the vSphere Web Client installed in the appliance. To register another vCenter Server system with the vSphere Web Client installed as part of a vCenter Server Appliance, you must use the admin-app command-line script rather than the Web-based administration tool.

vCenter Infrastructure Navigator 5.7 Documentation Center

/usr/lib/vmware-vsphere-client/scripts/admin-cmd.sh register https://webclient.mydomain.com:9443/vsphere-client vc.mydomain.com administrator 'CENSORED'

Thanks for any help.

The admin app is no longer available with vCenter 5.5. If you register all the vCSA to a central SSo they will all show up in single web client managing that particular SSO server's vCenter.

I see, so it won't work with embedded SSO?

Yes i think you will have to use an external SSO.

Ok, I just configured external SSO on the 2nd vCenter server to point to the 1st vCenter server. The test passes and everything seems fine but when I log into the Web Client of the 1st server I can only see 1 vCenter server on the list.

Do you know if there is any specific 5.5 SSO configuration documentation available?

Thanks again.

Did you login into the webclient using administrator@vsphere.local?

Yes, and it only shows one vCenter server which is itself. Is there any logs I can check?

Maybe I was logging in with a domain account rather than administrator@vsphere.local, because it's working now.

Thanks for all the help!
