Question on License vcenter 5.5

Hello Folks,

Small doubt Just wanted to know as i am gng to upgrade the vcenter from 5.0 to 5.5 and i have downloaded the vcenter 5.5 evaluation copy and using in testing environment but now the 60 days has been over so if i am going to install over production i think that will continue to work as we have 5.0 license in place.

Any suggestions ??

Hello, amitb79.

VMware does not divide licenses by minor versions of products (it is definitely true for vSphere and View), it is not Microsoft (2012 and 2012 R2 for example :smileygrin:). So your license will be work fine for 5.5 too.

Hmm, however Microsoft tells us that Win 2012 and 2012R2 are the different products, but who cares :smileygrin:.

Akopylov is right... there is no need of new licenses... the note below was extracted from KB article: VMware KB: Licensing ESXi 5.x and vCenter Server 5.x

Notes:

  • The vSphere 5.5 does not need new license keys. The existing 5.0/ 5.1 licenses will work and enable all the features of the software once upgraded
