When asking whether processors need to be in the same family, what constiutes as being family regarding the build or version of the proc?

Would a E5620 and an E5630 be considered as being in the same family (5600)?

yes, your example would be considered Processor Family. But for vMotion Compatibility you may have to enable EVC.
