Problem with creating Host Profiles, no real error messages

When every i try to create a host profile, as I'm working on building out some new ESXi 5.5 host, I keep getting this error when I try and create a host profile

A general system error occured:

Call "HostProfileManager.CreateProfile" for object "HostProfileManager" on vCenter Server "VCENTER NAME" failed.

That's all the information I can get in vCenter about it.  Any ideas where to even start troubleshooting this?

The hosts are ESXi 5.5.0, 2638301.  They have all the most recent patches applied to them as of this morning (4/14/2015).

I would recommend opening a support case with VMware Tech Support. I'm getting really tired of Host Profiles and its cryptic or non-existent error messages, so I've started just sending the problems to them instead of wasting even more time on troubleshooting.

Host Profile is such a great feature in theory, but VMware hasn't put any(?) time into making sure it actually works in practice.
