Port Requirements for vCenter Server 5.1 - SysLog Collector

Hi to All

Has anyone installed a SysLog Collector?

My vmware book by Lowe mentions little about ports for it.

During the install of the server it gave me a list of ports.

I accepted all the defaults except I changed http ports to 81 and 8081 because IIS is installed (vmware docs say to use a port other than 80 if IIS is already installed)

Now when installing the SysLog Collector it asks which http port I want to use.

The vmware docs mention nothing about the syslog http port nor does my book. The vmware docs for TCP show this.

ESXi Syslog Collector8001TCPESXivCenter Server

Network syslog server

Do I just use port 81 since that is the http port I setup for vcenter server? Doesn't the web interface connect through that port? Will there be a conflict?

I used netstat and port 82 is unused. Should I use that?

Will the other settings work ok?

There are no firewalls involved; vCenter server and the VMs will reside at the same site

Thanks in advance

Smiley Happy port 81 it is as per the third screenshot! 8081 is for Tomcat!

That is the port VC will accept connections from Syslog Collector to connect to

In your case, use 8081 as VC is using that port

Still confused. Based on my selections when installing the server "web services" uses 8081 in my config.

So what is using the http port 81 I setup?
