Just wondering if I am missing something here or is there a third party product that helps like vizioncore's ESXcharter.
Noticed looking in VC 2.0.2 and performance graphs for 2 servers in one datacenter they are maxing cpu at night during the backups for several hours.
Prior to VI 3 we could use vmkusage to get quick info about each vm in details over a past period.
In VI 3, we seem to be missing that ability, short of clicking on each vm one at a time and look (and configuring) the performance data we want.
Am I correct or other suggestions/products?
To replace vmkusage you may want to look at unnoc.
Charter is a nice tool and there are a few others out there. If you do a search on charter you will see many discussions that people have had in the past regarding monitoring.
Through VirtualCenter, try right-clicking on each VM and selecting "Report Performance". This will walk you through exporting the desired data to an Excel spreadsheet you can then open, etc.
Note that you may need to change the "Statistics Collection Level" for certain data. For example, if you want the CPU Ready metric for a longer period than real-time you'll need to bump the Statistics Collection Level from 2 (the default) to 4.
To do so, login to the VirtualCenter (via the VI client) and click on "Administration" (File Edit View Inventory Administration(click this) Help). Select "VirtualCenter Management Server Configuration", then click on Statistics, and for Statistics Collection Level change to "Level 4" from the drop-down menu.

thanks virtualdud3..but I was trying to say clicking on every vm is not really an option when you have lots of vms.
the http://unnoc.org/ tool looks really good too. thanks.
esxtop is also nice to get a birds-eye view.
thanks everyone
