Performance Overview - Virtual Machine View - No Performance Data after upgrading to 7.0.1

I get 'No performance data is available for the currently selected metrics' when selecting a Host / Performance Overview  and change the view to Virtual Machine.

The data was there in 7.0c, but is missing after upgrading to 7.0.1.

I have checked the statistic level - which is set to 3, and changed it to 4 to see if it makes a difference.

Is anyone able to confirm they see the same thing or know why this data is now now being graphed ?

Hi,

Are you noticing issue only with VM performance data or hosts as well?

can you verify if all services are running on vcsa

ssh to vcsa

service-control --status --all

Its only VM view performance data which is missing, all the other (Overview, NIC's and Disks) views are ok.
I have upgraded to 7.0.1U1c and the problem still exists.
Its the same on 3 VCSA's.

It may be related to time sync issue. Did you check ntp and time sync betwen VC and ESXi hosts?

I think @DARKINF was referring to KB79596 which looks interested indeed.

There is a procedure to check the time sync with in cli.

@vXav thanks for your reply. I found that kb too and checked for that. That is not the problem in my case.

Mine are all in sync too.

It's only when looking at the "Virtual Machines" view. The "Overview", "Network Adapters" and "Disks" views are fine. 

Also, whether I select real-time or any other timeframe as the period, I get the same error.

I am running build 17491160 now and the problem seems not to be gone here.

Metrics per virtual machine are still not available.

I have a case open at vmware an they pointed at that kb 😕

same issue here on a newly deployed VCSA 7.0.2 with fresh ESXi 6.7.0U3 even on only ESXi7 hosts on a newly VCSA --> same problem. 

Any news on your ticket ?

Still not resolved.
VMware closed it meanwhile and marked the mentioned KB as solution.
I reopened the case because that mentioned KB is not the solution in my case.

VMware replied after some weeks of investigating to me.

Just wanted to update you on the case. After a lot of work with scaling at engineering level, we found a fix for the reported inconvenience. The fix will be available in version 7.0 Patch 04, which will be available at the end of 2021. This patch will come with all the recommendations and help you have indicated for us."

So it seems they were able to track the issue down and will provide a fix for it soon.

Does anyone know if this is still a pending issue and if we are still waiting for this patch 4? I have just updated to 7.0. Update 3 and still have this issue. Performance metrics appear nominal when viewed directly through the hosts, yet I still cannot see anything in vCenter. I went through the mentioned KB as well and it did not resolve it.

Thanks! I have another update on this as well.

It appears that this issue was created when hosts were updated to 7.0.3 before vCenter was. Hosts that were running the newer version were not displaying performance stats correctly in vCenter 7.0 U2d. Now that vCenter has been upgraded, all performance metrics are showing as normal.

For kb79596 I'm getting a syntax error with the psql code:

update vpx_host_perfinfo set last_perf_time =now() where id=’HOST-ID

This is the replacement step 11 at the bottom of the article for 7.0.   It yields this:

ERROR: column "id" does not exist
LINE 1: ...vpx_host_perfinfo set last_perf_time =now() where id='HOST-I...
                                                             ^

Has anyone been able to run this against 7.0?

I'm willing to wipe all stats data if that would help -- just need a procedure.
