I am trying to convert a template to a virtual machine with the "Customize using Customization wizard" and when i click on next after selecting this option i get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". The virtual machine or now the template is running windows 2003 Enterprise edition with one processor, 1024MB memory, one NIC and no CD drive attached. I have tried to convert the template back to a VM and then back to a template, but I get the same error. I built another VM and converted it to a template and tried the deploy VM from template and i get the same error message. I am running ESX 3 with VC as a VM on the ESX server - does that have anything to do with it?
Are you running your VI Client on Windows Vista? Saw the same issue there.
are you getting any other errors in your log files?
I dont have any errors in my virtual center windows event log, i get this error from the VI client

Yup, I was using the VI client on Vista. I am able to complete this on the Virtual Center and it works - i guess I should have tried that! Thanks!
Count me in with this issue too, since I'm now running Vista on my notebook. Any word on resolution from VMware yet?
Same here... very open to any suggestion since a have a couple of people with vista workstation...
Checking into say that I am getting the same error when I try to do a clone from the VIC on Windows Vista, it works fine when I attempt it from Windows XP or the VC Server itself.
There's a workaround you can try, check the end of this thread.
