Hi,

I have a vSwitch which has two NIC's ... they are setup as Active Adpaters on the NIC Teaming Tab.

Currently they are both plugged into the same physical switch.

For redundancy purposes can I plug one of the NIC's into another switch ? (both switches are connected) and leave the Teaming Tab setup with both NIC's as Active Adapters or should I move one of the NIC's to become a Standy Adapter ?

(This is on an ESX 4 Server)

If we ONLY talk about redundancy, yes you can make it active/active however each VM will only use one nic at a time. However, if this NIC teaming setup require your port group to do load balance for VM network, I don't think so, unless you configure Link aggregation and you are using stack switch.

Actually active/active is fine as the load balancing is done by "virtual port id"

Its not until you use "router based on IP hash" that you need to "trunk" (HP) or Portchannel (cisco)
