NFS shared storage for vMotion test - ESXi 5.0

Hi,

We are planning to do ESXi5.0 server certification.

Could anyone in the community help me out on setting up a NFS shared storage that can be used as a VMFS?

What are hardware and software requirements for this?

If this procedure is mentioned in any vmware documents, please give me pointers to the same.

Regards,
Raghavendrachari

Check out pages 24 and 127 of the vSphere 5 Storage Guide at http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-50-storage...

You will be able to see from there what is and is not possible with NFS in relation to ESX 5.

My understanding is that you will not be able to use a NFS datastore to create a VMFS volume.

Hi,

Thanks for the info shared.

Can I use a standard linux PC running RHEL as a NFS server that shares a NFS storage space which has all the VMs(vmdk files) images?

I will have to add this machine's LUN to the ESXi hosts which can access this share storage(VMs).

Please correct me if I understood it wrong regarding NFS shared storage/VMFS?

Regards,

Raghavendra.
