Mysterious vCenter 4.0 Web Access issue.

I'm looking at an issue with vCenter Web Access. Server is running vCenter Server 4.0 (not Update 1). Hosts are running ESX 4.0 at various patch levels (usually patched up to current). vCenter Server is running on a VM with Windows Server 2003 / SP2.

If I access the vCenter's Web UI (https://vcenter/ui), it doesn't show all VMs that exist in the environment. Particularly, VMs on newer hosts (added about a week ago) are missing from the list. Also, it sometimes takes so long to load the list of hosts / VMs in a datacenter that it either hangs, or produces an error.

I verified the hosts have connectivity to vCenter, and name-resolution works. The vmware-webAccess service is started at the hosts. If I connect to the individual hosts, I don't have any issues; the VM lists are complete and load quickly.

I also tried restarting the "VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices" service at the vCenter box. That did not help.

Is this just the dreaded bugginess of vCenter Web Access, or is there something I need to do to get it working? It appears as if it's not refreshing its data from vCenter somehow.
