I'm looking for some advice on if we should move our vcenter server from a physical to a virtual and any concerns with virtualizing this. The goal is to consolidate a data center of 12+ racks down to two racks with virtualizing everything that is possible to virtualize.
Thanks in advance for the responses.
Running VirtualCenter in a Virtual Machine is fully supported and works quite well.
Here's a good KB article on moving your vCenter instance
We have had Virtual Centre running in production for a while now without any issues.
One bonus is you get the protection of HA if you virtualise it.
That would be very funny if it was not possible to run Virtual Center Server on a Virtual Machine.
It would be like the hospital which says to the charity, please don't come see us.
Off course that is possible to move your Virtual Center Server on a Virtual Machine.

Virtual center on VM is always work but do expect some slow performance versus physical server after virtualize, I also not sure why, but it is still acceptable.
