Moving mgmt vkernel port from vDS to a vSS

Hiya,

We have a situation where someone has created 3 Distributed switches with 2 NIC's assigned to each

VDS1 - Data

VDS2 - Management

VDS3 - vMotion

Someone has put the vCenter VM in a Port Group on VDS1. We want to move the vCenter VM on to the Virtual Standard Switch. Unfortunately there are no NICs left to assign to the Virtual Standard Switch.

So the Plan is to move the Virtual Distributed Management Switch NIC's to the Virtual Standard Switch, migrate the vkernel management port from the VDS to the VSS so the management vkernel for all hosts is on this switch and  create a Port Group for the vCenter VM to sit in

I was just wondering if anyone has done this as I'm not sure what effect this will have on our hosts etc. Running vSphere 4.1U1 and EntPlus lic

A rough plan was worked out below, does anyone have any better ideas

1. First of all, On all Hosts (Prod and Non Prod) - Remove NIC1 from the Management dvswitch -  dvs0_Prd_Npd_Mgmt
2. Add these now spare NICS to the Virtual Standard Switch - vSwitch0
3. Migrate the vkernel mgmt port from dvs0_Prd_Npd_Mgmt to vSwitch0 for the Production Cluster
4. Migrate the vkernel mgmt port from dvs0_Prd_Npd_Mgmt to vSwitch0 for the Non Production Cluster (Not sure if these are the same switches so may only need doing once s above)
5. Remove NIC0 from the Management switch -  dvs0_Prd_Npd_Mgmt
6. Add these now spare NICS to the Virtual Standard Switch - vSwitch0
7. Configure relevant switch properties. E.g Security/Teaming settings
8. Create Port Group - vLAN 100
9. Migrate vCenter VM from the vDS to the vSS

Any assistance greatly appreciated

Thanks
