Moving VMDK files containing SPANNED disks

Hello,

I have a VM Fileserver that has a partition on one LUN. Due to space issues, another LUN was added to the VM and another VMDK file created. This has resulted in a SPANNED disk.

I now need to MOVE these. I have built another Fileserver on Windows 2008 and would like to move the VMDK files associated with the spanned disks.

I was going to use Veeam FastSCP to move the VMDK and associated FLAT files from one server to the new one.

Have tested this on a small single partition disk to see if permissions remain.

However, my concern is over the fact that the current partion is spread over TWO luns and multiple VMDK's.

Will moving all the VMDK's to the new server allow the new partition to be rebuilt once it is powered up ?

I have little experience in this, so any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

Hello,

If I have understood your question correctly then, you have 2 virtual disk (VMDK) of a virtual machine located on 2 LUN's. Now you want to relocate the VMDK's to same LUN.

I believe storage vMotion should allow you to move these disks to the same LUN.

Let me know if you have any questions.

If you move ALL files of the VM there is no issue.
