I have Vcenter on a physical server and want to move it to virtual, If I convert it to virtual give it a different name and IP address how can I bring up and test the new virtual vcenter server while the physical is on line?.

If you are going to use the same DB, you can't. Have a look at this KB article, it may be helpful
