Hi all,
I'm studying if the migration of the vCenter DB from SQL 2005 Standard to Oracle is possible.
I have already read a lot of documentation and didn't find any clue about this purpose.
Did anyone make it? Is it possible and functionnal?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
There is a thread on the main page with the same question.

So yeah it is possible. But I would recommend starting from a fresh vCenter install. Either by manually moving your hosts across and recreating your folders/resource pools etc or by using a PowerCLI script. This way you will not end up with a corrupt schema.
this is probably closest you can get: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1726761 if you do not mind losing your performance stats, it's much easier to setup fresh ..

I'm never a fan of migrating Databases - wherever possible, I just build a new one and migrate configs by scripts (e.g. resource Pools etc)
You will lose historic performance data - so it is up to you whether this is worth the pain of attempting a 'migration'
Thank you for your awesmone and quick answer.
To my eyes, considering all your points of view. I have two possibilities :
Staying with my SQL Server DB, or creating a new one based on Oracle while we'll change our vCenter version (fresh install).
