Massive SQL Transaction Logs

Hi Everyone

In doing the vCentre 4 upgrade, migrated to Windows 2003 64bit, and SQL2005 SP2.

Ever since the Transaction logs are huge !

Average approx 200MB an hour, but today 09:00-10:00 1.3GB, 11:00-12:00 12GB, 12:00- 7GB

I have set the database to "simple" to stop the transaction logs.

As far as I can tell nothing is running.

Anyone any ideas?

VC = 10 ESX V3.5 hosts approx 50 linux/windows VMs

Thanks,

Matt

It's most likely the performance stats rollup jobs are not running. http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003979 Investigating the health of a VirtualCenter database server

and http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1004382

You can truncate the performance data (vpx_hist_stat# are the table names iirc) if you just want to get rid of the data and free up the space. If you have changed the statistics logging levels from the defaults, this will cause more data to be collected and fill up the database quicker, too.

Applied KB 1014209 and now all appears to be ok.
