Maintenance Mode

We had a VM that went squirley and had to shut down a host.

We put it in maintnance mode and all the VM's, other than the freaked out one, migrated off the host with DRS.

We reset the Host which fixed the freaked out VM, but now we cannot get the Host out of maintenance mode.

In VCM I only have the option to Reboot or Shutdown the host.

It says the HA agent is disabled, but the other servers seem to have HA configed correctly.

VCM is 2.0.1 build 32042

Hosts are ESX 3.0.1 build 35804

We have plans to move to a later version of VCM after our SQL 2005 server comes in.

We also will be upgrading the hosts as soon as new hardware comes in (leap frog upgrade).

Thanks,

Chris Robert

Have you tried connecting directly to the ESX host with the VI CLient instead of through VirtualCenter and see if you can take it out of MM?

I can see enter/exit maintenance mode when I connect directly, but it still will not allow Vm's to vmotion to it.

Thanks,

Try this from the ESX console

vimsh -n -e /hostsvc/maintenance_mode_exit

I used your commands and it seemed to run.

It still did not allow the system to vmotion VM's to it.

I disconnected and reconnected to the host in VCM and it forced a reconfig of HA.

After it's reconfig it is back in the cluster and accepting VM's.

Thanks,

Chris Robert
