MS SQL 2005 Express

I'm evaluating ESX Server and was wondering if anyone has used MS SQL 2005 Express in a production environment for the VirtualCenter.

AFAIK it isn't officially supported.

As long as you only have a few hosts it works.

I sometimes use it in small environments (2-4 hosts)

I don't see us ever growing any bigger than four hosts. Thanks.

Many people said the same in the past...

Make sure to monitor the size of the database and (if needed) delete old data manually and/or adjust the VC collections levels.

Wasn't it Bill Gates who said, "Nobody will ever need anymore than 4MB of Ram"? I appreciate the advise.

thanks again.

VMware's "Upgrade Guide for ESX Server 3.5, ESX Server 3i version 3.5 & Virtual Center 2.5" and their "VMware Infrastructure Compatibility Matrixes" both now seem to say that SQL Server Express is now supported for installations with up to four hosts and 50 virtual machines.

You'd be on your own to develop an automated backup mechanism, though, as SQL Express only provides manual backups.
