  • 1.  Local host permissions for VMware Infrastructure Client

We normally use vcenter 2.5 and ESX 3.5. Our user permissions are defined on vcenter, using Active Directory.

However when vcenter is down, we can log in locally to each esx host using the VMware Infrastructure client. Logging in as root works fine. However we have several local non-root accounts defined on the ESX host.

How can we give those users permission to log in? We'd like them to be administrators on the GUI, but not give out the root password.

As root you will need to log in with the VI Client and assign permissions to those non-root users to access the environment - but be warned you do not have the granularity of permissions as you do with VC and if these hosts are being managed by VC you do not want to make changes to them directly because that can affest DRS and HA -
