Just upgraded to vCenter 4.1 - most 4.0 hosts won't connect

Hey guys

I just upgraded (moved from 32bit Server to 64 bit server using datamigration tool - upgraded sql db -which is on a different server).

For some reason about 90 percent of my ESX 4.0 hosts won't connect or are not manageable.

I get the error Cannot install the Vcenter agent service. Cannot upload agent. And then it'll prompt through the intiali windows of managing an ESX host, only after entering username and password, i get the same error...cannot upload agent...

any hints?TIA!

Also, since i migrated to a differert server ...the migrated data/info, when logged into the Vcenter, it shows the old server name up top - I noticed there's a rename option, if I rename it will there be any problems?

you may try some suggestions in the below KB

http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003714

However, what happens if you restart the management agents on the ESX Host(s) in question and then try to add into vCenter?

service mgmt-vmware restart

Mr. Clavell -- Thank you so much for the quick reply! - and the links were very helpful -- the sad thing is that after I tried those commands and it still wouldn't connect....turns out, our damn network firewall was blocking the traffic - thanks to your hints though -- it cleared it up. Thank you again for responding and the links and info you provided definitely will help me with other issues in the future!

Thank you!!!
