Is it possible to move the ESXi hosts between clusters along with the VM's running on it ???

Hi All,

We have two( Prod1 & Prod2 ) clusters of 8 and 4 esxi 5.0 hosts , now we are planning to migrate the esxi in Prod2 to Prod1. We dont have enough resources in the cluster to put one esxi host into mentanance mode.

Is it possible to move the ESXi host to Prod1 cluster along with the VM's running on it ???

Thanks !

No its not.
The host needs to be placed in maintenance mode in order to move a host out of a cluster, which will vMotion the VMs to other hosts if available.

Sure can (unless CPU differences prevent). Just disconnect the host first and then remove. Then just add to the other cluster.

I agree with vMLH assuming you don't need to keep folders permissions or resource pools on 2 then just disconnect the host from vcenter 2 and add to vcenter 1 and your done.  (Again you will have to have the same CPU type and may have to use EVC)

Hi

Welcome to the communities.

Its highly suggested if don't have resources then do offline migration .

to prevent after migration hassles.
