Is it necessary to update Vcenter SSO before upgrading Vcenter server?

Hi Guys -

I have a vcenter server 5.1 U1, I would like to update it to Vcenter 5.1 U2. I have iso for vcenter server, I am going with Vcenter SSO installation first but it is not taking the password (SSO password). Do I have to update Vcenter sso as well when moving from U1 to U2 or can we install vcenter server directly (hope it takes the SSO password there).

The reason why it is not taking the password is because I have reset the SSO password from SQL database (I forgot the previous password that was the reason for doing that).

Kindly Help.

Do you have changed the admin@system-domain since the installation ? If yes, you remember the old password ? Can you provide us some screenshot or log showing the exactly error you're getting.

yes, i dont know the old password but changed the password from sql....

when installing new sso it is not taking the changed password, and poping up an error "password incorrect".

Just to confirm, you changed the SSO admin master password in SQL like described here, not the RSA_DBA/RSA_USER, right ?

It is not recommended to upgrade VC without SSO. But other way is ok i.e. just upgrade SSO.

Do you have any other SSO user( maybe from LDAP, AD or system-domain) which has admin privilege which is part of _Administrators_ group of SSO. If yes than you can login through NGC using that user and change password for admin@system-domain user. After that you can proceed with your upgrade.
