Hello all,
I have the bits for vCenter 2.5 Update 5 and I was attempting to install it on a new Windows 2008 Server R2 machine. When I select the option of Server it comes back that the ports 80 and 443 are in use (which they are), and then advises to use the custom option. I select custom and it advises that Server cannot be installed and only the client is available to install. Am I missing something here, and that vCenter Server will not install onto R2?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Anthony
Hi Anthony,
vCenter 2.5 U5 can't be installed on Windows 2008 Server R2.
Please check out page no. 15 of http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf
Thanks.

Bummer I was afraid of that...I guess I will have to wait for U6 or vCenter 3?
Thanks for the info!
A.
But can you install vCenter on Windows 2008 R2?
I have problem running vSphere client on a Windows 7 client, and what I remember Windows 2008 R2 is based on the same platform as Win 7.
Sure you can install vcenter on w2k8, but I don't have experiance with vsphere client on win7.
I know you can install it on Windows 2008.
But the question was can you install it on Windows 2008 R2.
Well W2k8 is not supported. I think you have to wait until 22th October osr so!
Sorry I meant W2k8 R2!!
Okey, perfect,
thanks for the update krowczynski.
