Installing new vCenter Server in a pre-existing View environment

We are planning a vCenter migration (from physical to virtual), and vCenter upgrade (from 4.0.2 to 4.1.1).
Our current vCenter server and 5 ESX hosts are 4.0.2, and we use VMware View 4.5 in our vSphere infrastructure.
We have been advised by VMware Support that 'If the vCenter Server is being used as part of a VMware View environment, then the name of the vCenter should not be changed or modified'
We have also been advised that the best method is to install fresh vCenter Server, rather than use the data migration tool.

Question 1:
In a fresh VC install, do we first...
a. Uninstall Vcenter from old VC Server ...OR
b. Remove ESX hosts from old VC cluster (i.e. shutdown VMs on hosts, put hosts in maintenance mode, remove)

Question 2:
If ESX hosts need to be removed from old cluster, is it possible to remove them with VMs running, and how?
(re. article for ESX 3.0: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=100231...)

Question 3:
Is it possible to add ESX hosts with running virtual machines to an EVC enabled Cluster on the new VC, given that EVC is currently enabled on the existing cluster?

There does not appear to be a KB to follow for installing VC in a pre-existing View environment, and would greatly appreciate help..

Many thanks for your help...
