Installation VMware vCenter 5.1.0a

Hi all,

I've a very big problem installing VMware vCenter Server 5.1.0a. This is my environment:

  • VMware vCenter Server 5.1.0a (SSO, Inventory, vCenter Server)
  • Microsoft SQL Server Standard 2008 R2 SP2

When I try to install in both metod (Simple and Separately), vCenter Single Sign On and Inventory Service starts correctly. When I try to install vCenter Server, instead, installation fails during Profile Driven Installation. After lot of troubleshooting the problem is that vCenter Server Service does not start correctly and crashes.

This is an extract of vpxd.log:

(I've attached the vpxd.log)

I've also tried to run installation with the server out of AD domain, removed and rejoined server into AD domain, created SSL certificate with OpenSSL, install vCenter 5.0 and then upgraded to 5.1 and many other attempts but the issue is the same.

Could someone help me?

Hi,

Upgrading to VMware vCenter 5.1.0a  from 5.1.0,  I've had the same "Problem", in Japanese Environment.

However, I still haven't obtained effective breakthrough...

In this my problematic situation, I've contacted VMware Support.

VMware Support Answer is "Reinstall".

But I think   "Reinstall"  is not  fundamental solution....

I've tried to reinstall many times in many different ways. In my opinion this does not solve the issue.

Thank you responding to my comments.  I'm sorry for replying to you so late.

I'd like to share this issue.

VMware Support Answer is "Reinstall".

It means that at first after uninstalling problematic VMware vCenter 5.1.0a,   newly VMware vCenter 5.1.0a  should be reinstalled.

As you know,  I don't know what causes this phenomenon.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem. I found that if the FQDN of the vCenter contains the sequence "sts" inside, the upgrade (or the fresh installation...) will fail. My FQDN was vcenter51.local.nordestservizi.it, what is yours? I try to install in a vm renamed vcenter51.local.nordest.it and it works...
