Installation VCenter on Win2003 - Error Message 28038

Installation of vCenter Server 4.0 Update 1 on Windows Server 2003.

After Autostart clicking on vCenter Server

While the Installation is running the installer displays an error message 28038 similar to the following:

Setup cannot create vCenter Server Directory Services instance.

Refer to C:
Users\SYS-VC~1\...\jointool-0.log for more details. Click Yes to force this operation.

When you click Yes, a message similar to the following might be displayed:

Error 28038. Setup cannot create vCenter Server Directory Services instance.

Refer to C:
Users\SYS-VC~1\AppData\Local\Temp\...\jointool-0.log for more details.

What can I do?

Seems an error in ADAM setup.

Have you checked the error log file?

PS: if you have Windows 2003 why your profile is in C:\Users ? Do you have folder redirection or roaming profiles?

I've not yet installed a clean version of vCenter Server 4.0U1 on Windows Server 2003, but I've upgrade from 4.0 to U1 without any problem.

So just check your log, your path and your group policies.

I´ve seen this KB but I have WinServer 2003.

If this does not matter how can I enable Active Directory in WinServer2003?

you need to have your vCenter Host Server part part of a domain, that would be the only reason I can think of why you are getting that error. Is your vCenter Server joined to a domain?

I have not updated to U1 yet, but my Windows 2003 Standard Edition is running vCenter4. I did not have to make any special adjustments. Is this server you are installing vCenter on acting as another role in your enviornment other than just a member server?

It is a completly new VMview environment in an existing network with a DC.

First I installed ESX4.0.0U1

Then I created a VirtualMachine on this ESX Host with WinServer2003 SP2 StandartEdition.

Then I did some adjustments like setting the VM to the existing Domain and I gave this VM a static IP with Gateway and DNS.

In my Network I can reach this VM by its Hostname, so the Network is working.

Now I tried to install the VCenter Server with this problem.
