Install VUM on same virtual machine as vCenter4?

I am building our new vSphere4 enviornment. Currently vCenter 4 is running on a windows 2008 64-bit vm, 2vcpu, 4GB ram. We will have a total of 18-20 vSphere 4 hosts in three locations (centrally managed) after all is said and done. I have yet to install VUM. They wil be in seperate SQL 2005 SP2 databases on a seperate SQL DB vm. Best practice recommends to "seperate both the VUM server host and the VUM database from the VirtualCenter server and the VirtualCenter database when there are 1000+ virtual machines or 100+ hosts".

For 500+ vms and 50+ hosts, VMware recommends to seperate the VUM database from the VirtualCenter database. Is anyone running both VC and VUM on the same vm with Windows 2008 64-bit? We have or vSphere 4 running on our newly aquired Dell m1000 bladecenter. The ESX hosts are Dell PE M610 and M710 blades Intel Xeon E5540 2.53GHz Nehalem. The M610s have 6 pnics and the M710s have 12 pnics. we are also purchsing a Cisco 3130 switch for the blade.

Any opinions on this?

Hi,

installing VUM on the same machine as vcenter is no problem.

But doing so should not be done, if you have more than 5 ESX hosts.

SO if you can install an VUM separaretly.
