In place upgrade from VC2.5u1 to VC2.5u2 104263

Hello!

Our esx servers were updated to u1 when our vc was upgraded to u1 several months ago.

The esx servers's have been updating themselves perfectly using the update manager for months.

Now it's time to bring the VC up to the latest build, I've downloaded the iso and will using CD to install the update.

Some questions:

1) Will I need to roll out new VI CLIENTS by hitting the web server on the VC after upgrade is complete?

2) Will all VM's require new VMWARE Tools to be installed AFTER?

3) Will the Database be upgraded, I suppose yes right?

4) On pg53 Chpt 4 Upgrading a VC it mentions that I should Change to Bulk-Loggin in SQL Server Enterprise Manager - did anyone do this? We are running sql 2005 on the same box as VC(2k3r2)

5) Is all the optional add-on's automatically upgraded? - ie update manager/ consolidation?

Is it a fairly straight forward upgrade, says it only takes about 10 mins.

1) Yes. And new plugin versions.

2) Yes, you'll need to update the tools. The old ones still work, but you'll want to updated them eventually.

3) Yes, the database gets upgraded.

4) I just ignored this message when it popped up during the install.

5) As long as you run the "main" setup program (can't recall the name of it) it will also upgrade converter/UM. You can also install converter/UM separately.

Great thanks for your reply!B-)

I can see that my esx servers are version 104263 so thats neat to see the update manager took care of that!

Ok anything else I should know of?

Does it update the license server as well?

Well ran the update again using the zip, everything worked smooth.

Had to redown the update manager from within the GUI and click install.

HA reconfigured.

Only thing I noticed is the VMWARE tools doesn't say out of date.

Weird

The VMware Tools will not show out of date if you did not change the build level of your ESX hosts.

you're good... If you go to U2 then your tools will show "out of date", but since you didn't change the ESX build, your tools are current for the build you are on.
